Although The Maestrat is a very rural area, employment can be found here, although of course the range of choices is much more limited than in urban areas. The key to all employment is language. Without the ability to use Spanish it becomes much more difficult to find jobs in within the Spanish economy.
The growing number of English settlers does of course provide some local opportunities for work, but sustainable jobs do generally depend on job-seekers being able to communicate.
Local Spanish classes are available but it is always a good idea to do some preparation before coming to live in Spain.
